About WeddingRef

Built by photographers, for photographers.

We got tired of missing great bookings and sending couples to people we didn't know. So we built the network we wished existed.

The problem

"Every photographer misses bookings. Most send couples to Facebook groups and hope for the best."

Wedding photography is seasonal, geography-limited, and intensely personal. When a photographer is already booked, they have no reliable way to pass the couple to someone they trust. The default answer — a public group, a Google search, a vague recommendation — leaves everyone worse off.

The couple goes to an unknown photographer. The original photographer never knows the outcome. The potential referral relationship is wasted. No one gets credit. No one builds reputation. The whole thing disappears into the void.

The solution

WeddingRef is a closed, verified network of professional wedding photographers across Europe. When you can't take a booking, you post it. Verified members see it, review the brief, and connect with the couple — with your endorsement attached.

The token economy means every referral you post builds credit you can spend when you need to receive one. Peer reviews make the quality visible. Verification makes the trust real. The whole system is designed to reward the photographers who contribute the most.

What we believe

Trust is the only currency that matters.

01

Verified only

Every member is a real working professional. No hobbyists, no stock photographers. We check.

02

Peer accountability

Reviews come from colleagues who have worked with you. Harder to fake, more meaningful.

03

Fair by design

The token system rewards those who contribute. The more you refer, the less you pay.

The story

In the spring of 2023, a wedding photographer based in Lisbon had three inquiries in a single week — all for dates she was already booked. Three couples, three opportunities, and nothing to do with them except post in a Facebook group and move on.

She never heard what happened. Months later, one of those couples reached back out. The photographer they found through the group had cancelled two weeks before the wedding. The photos were never taken.

That was the moment. Not an abstract problem, not a feature gap — a couple who lost their wedding photos because the referral system failed them. A professional she would never have recommended. A connection made in a context with no verification, no accountability, and no consequence.

WeddingRef was designed around one principle: every referral should carry the weight of a personal recommendation. That means knowing who you are referring to, and having something on the line when you do.

We launched with 13 photographers across 5 countries. Our goal: 500 by end of 2026.
